Leap of Faith

The danger with premonitions is that we can forget to live. Guidance is received in many ways and premonitions are just one of many. Guidance can come in the form of advice from a friend or a priest, or it can even come as a fleeting thought. The best guidance among them all is often the one we forget, the one that comes from our heart. If we live our life looking to confirm everything at every step, that’s not living, it’s trying to be right, but by whose standards? We are the ones who live with our decisions, positive or negative, and our decisions have an impact on the world around us. No matter how much we want to believe that our actions, thoughts and beliefs just affect us, we cannot fool anyone but ourselves. We affect each other, through our moods, words, action and inaction.

Though we may want that pat on the back every step of the way, sometimes we just have to put one foot in front of the other and take a leap of faith. Faith is not completely blind, when we follow our heart.

Infinite Possibilities

The future you realize is dependent on the present you realize. There are infinite presents.

Reunited

No one and nothing can stop you from being reunited. No obstacle, not even time will prevent you. When you are there will you know what to do? Will you know what to ask? Will you know what to say? Will you just smile or will your heart sink?

Will you think about the time, the time in between? Will you run as fast as you can? Nothing can stop you except your own two feet. There is no need to carry the sadness. There is no need to dwell on the past. It’s all a big ocean with no overcast.

Future Flux

The future never matters as much as the present because no matter how hard you try to capture what is front of you, it is always just out of reach and understanding. The future cannot be understood without the present, just as the present cannot be understood without the past. And though we might feel we have a grasp on all three, each is dependent on the other. As impossible as that may seem, our perception of the now, is constantly in flux. It is influenced by our emotions, and the very things that stir us and put us to sleep.

Reality is what we make it. Acceptance is what we make it. Expectations are what we make them. And yet all of these things are not mutually exclusive, with each potentially depending on the other. However, we can choose to live in a world of potentials or we can choose our fate at every moment. As seemingly out of control as life may sometimes appear, we have control over every aspect of how we choose to accept life. We may choose to accept life as a series of disconnected events seemingly pointing us to an end or a glorious epiphany, or we can choose to see life as a series of choices and events in which we play a very active role.

At each step and each moment, we can choose whether to accept what is before us. We can attempt to change the circumstance with which our present existence is framed, or we can live in the now, enjoying and living each moment of happiness and pain that life has to offer. And though part of us may want to judge and weigh the importance of each event that life presents, we also have the choice to see the love that is in every moment of every breath. The future is in flux, and yet so is the past. They may appear static, but life is what we can accept. And sometimes I choose to accept all of it. Can you?

Looking for Oracles

If you spend your time looking for oracles you will find them. If you spend your time looking for confirmation, you will find it. If you spend your time looking for pain and destruction, you will find those too. Look hard enough and you will find most anything. The question is, is what we seek merely a distraction? Is what we seek even good for us? Does knowing the reason behind something always matter? Finding explanations that match our preconceived notions of how the world should work or how others should behave doesn’t necessarily make for a better life.

We can search for the things we think will make us happy, but if it’s not really the truth, or if it distracts us from a greater love, or a greater happiness, what have we done? Have we wasted our time? Some will say “No,” because at least we will have traveled a path to tell us what not to do, but those paths can be infinite? Yes, those experiences give us perspective, but we must also ask ourselves, how far do we want to sink before we will put up our heads to breathe?

It’s not necessary to suffocate ourselves before we are ready to accept what life has to offer us, even if it’s not quite what we expected. Try to find peace, and we are met with road blocks. Try to find love, and we put conditions on how that love should be given and received. Try to help others, and we hold it against a person if they are not ready for the help.

Perhaps if we could just learn to appreciate what comes in life, we will be able to see all the blessings that have been bestowed on us. There won’t be that need to complain about the aching back, the weather that isn’t quite perfect enough, or the lack of sleep from a mind that endlessly worries about what to do next. We can either spend our time searching for oracles or we can enjoy life.

Premonitions

premonitionWhat you see is not for your gain. What you see is not for self-recognition. It is not about being right or being proven right. It is not about confirmations or denials. It is not about being seen or being known. Have compassion for the lives of those whom you see. Have understanding for the choices made and those denied. Be a comforting voice and a helping hand.

Have gratitude for the life so close, but not always so clear. Clarity does not come through sight of one’s eyes or spirit, but through heart. Whether a waking vision, or a dream, focus and understanding comes from an open heart, and not through the altered lens of one’s detractors.

See past the murky water. See past the swirled colors. See past images of past and future. See past what others would have for you, and look no more.

Chasing Dreams

child running after dreamSatisfaction is difficult to come by when we’ve allowed something to take the place of our heart. Nothing can fill a hole that digs itself deeper. Nothing can quench a thirst that sits in the sun. Nothing can please a mind that has itself convinced.

When we’re ready to stop and face ourselves, then we can see the real challenge we face. It’s not the promotion or the job. It’s not the marriage or the relationship. It’s not the salary or the bills. It’s our expectations.

It’s the expectations that we have of ourselves and of others. It’s the future we hoist above our heads and the past we try to forget. It’s the dreams we’ve swept under the rug for the sake of another. It’s all the things we thought we wanted, but didn’t know why.

When our dreams become us, have we forgotten what we’re after, or have our eyes been so set on the goal that we disregard all in our wake?

Beyond Reason

Finding out the reason why someone behaves the way they do does not change the behavior. Finding out why a decision was made does not change the decision. Finding out why an event occurred does not change the consequences. In struggle and strife we often seek out answers, but the answers we find can sometimes do little to quench our desire for a given outcome.

We are not victims of chance or circumstance, but we can neither change the outcomes than we can the hearts of men and women. Satisfaction in understanding comes when we have let reason fall to the wayside and acceptance rise to the forefront. Holding grudges and animosity does more to weigh us down than it does to lift any burdens. Like lumps in our throat, it can be hard to swallow why a person does what they do. And perhaps it is not for us to entirely understand, for we each face our own trials.

In facing our own demons, perhaps we can allow others to face theirs. And though we may not see eye to eye, perhaps when we are ready to look up, we’ll have a better understanding of each other.

Prophecy

flood prophecyThe idea of prophecy has captured the minds of many over the ages. From religious and ancient texts to self-proclaimed psychics and seers to seemingly miraculous personal experiences, men and women from cultures around the world have contemplated its purpose and power. From seeing, whether in the waking state or sleeping state, to feeling, physically and or emotionally, the experience and idea of prophecy has left many to question their faith, the workings of the universe and sometimes one’s very own sanity.

For many people, the future is thought to be unknowable, but bound by something we call “time.” Just out of view it serves as inspiration, and hope for something better. It serves as motivation for improving one’s current state of existence. For others, the future is thought to be knowable, but only in dribs and drabs. Sometimes dreamlike, it entices the seer. What could be the reason for having a glimpse into the future? Is it really the future that is being seen, or has all of this happened before?

Regardless of whether what is seen serves as a warning or a fanciful “what if” moment, the experience often serves as a reminder of the mysteries that surround us. When one sees what they perceive as the future, are they an observer, or do they remain an active participant in their own lives? The idea of free will comes into question and suddenly one is thrust into contemplating a future and life that has already been predetermined. If life and existence itself were predetermined, is the value of life suddenly cheapened? Is birth, death and all that comes in between simply a formality?

Perhaps the question of predetermination and free-will are more a matter of perception than practicality. For many the idea of a predetermined life is slavery draped in different clothes. For others it is the acceptance of choices made long ago, but also made in this very moment. What if every choice, and every choice resulting from that choice, and so on, for all possible choices of every creation, existed all at once? What if like the threads of a blanket, by pulling and manipulating one thread, each thread of that blanket were affected? And so in being able to understand one choice, one has the ability to understand all other choices affected by that single choice and all other choices before it.

In that breathe, perhaps the past, present and future are all the same, existing simultaneously, although for many, experienced one at a time. Like a series of dominoes in every which direction that fall and reset themselves, the past, present and future are continuously unfolding. From the view of the domino it only knows itself, and what comes immediately before and after it. When seen together, one path is realized, and sometimes more than one path is realized at a given time. Which is the present? Which is the past? Which is the future? Does it matter?

When our choices are realized, maybe it is not the order in which they are seen that matters, but rather what is learned or understood in that moment. Like an intricate dance, all of existence is being expressed, and what we choose to see is up to us. Suddenly the power of prophecy lay not in the future, but in understanding the eternal now.
